I've done 6 weddings. Yes, I charged for my first one, but it was mostly just to cover cost. I was still shooting in film. Never again. The reception is much easier. Kids and older family memebers are great to watch and capture. Good luck and have fun.

My camera is actually very simple. It is a Fuji S6000 fd. It shoots like and acts like a SLR, but is not. It is equiped with a 28mm - 300 mm lens and only shoots at 3.9 - 8 aperture. However, it has 12 mega pix, and all the operable functions of a good SLR so that I can really work in different lighting. Typically you will only need a 35-200mm lens at a wedding, unless the lighting is really good and you can get all the way to the rear of the ceremony and still see the couple at the alter. Have you every done a wedding before? If not look up some helpful tips by googling "first time wedding photography tips". That was how I did my first one.
